Green Electricity and Carbon Offsets

With our Election on the way, all the talk seems to be around what is our Government going to do about Alternative Energy to BROWN/COAL Energy?

My Question is WHAT ARE "YOU" Doing about it?

Do we really need a Government to do something about it?
What is we all do our little bit?

We have events like - EARTH HOUR
                                 - CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA
                                 - TREE PLANTING
                                 - RECYCLING BINS

But What is something YOU can do? The old saying I was told, just switch off!!

Do we really need all of those Appliances on? All the Time?

How green is Australia’s electricity supply?

So you already know that 14% of energy in the grid is already green. That comes from renewable generators feeding the electricity they produce into the NEM, just like traditional power plants do.3
Of this 14%, over half of it (about 60 per cent) is from hydropower plants. The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme is Australia's largest hydro-electric generator.
The remaining green energy in the grid comes from a combination of windbiomass and solar energies.
I Rent, so over the last two years I have been trying to come up with a way to make up like a portable Solar so I can take it with me. I am close. But this will only help me offset about 12% of our Daily Energy Use, and would have cost me About $1500, SO will take me a little over 5 Years to get my money back!
Lucky the money I have used to get the materials was mainly bartering my labour, and recycling copper, brass and cans. So really didn't cost me that money after all.
But my business is about Cleaning Solar to Help make the Most Solar Produced! from your System. So if I in return are not using as much GREEN energy as I can, to me that makes me a Hypocrite!
So I looked into switching to Green Power with Origin Energy, our Electricity Retailer.

How much does it cost?

GreenPower charges depend on your energy plan or agreement. Here’s some estimates based on an average household’s quarterly electricity bill.*
Charges effective from 14 March 2016
25% GREENPOWER50% GREENPOWER100% GREENPOWER
Charge (inc. GST)Charge (inc. GST)Charge (inc. GST)

$2.00 per week or $26.00 per quarterly bill$2.70 per week or $35.13 per quarterly bill$5.39 per week or $70.13 per quarterly bill
*based on annual electricity usage of 5,000kWh and a 13 week quarterly bill.
For Predictable Plan customers, we'll fix your GreenPower charges for the 12 month period. We'll base the charges on your estimated usage over 12 months.
So to go 50% GREEN Energy it is going to cost me an EXTRA $359 per Year!! That would take up my GREEN Energy use to 62% costing me $1859 in the First Year :( I should have just bout a 2KW Solar to put on the roof of the house we rent?
It seems so expensive to help the Environment! I can see why most people do not, or can not afford to do it!
I also found out the our household Electricity adds up to 12.01 Ton per year, to offset this at $10 per Ton = $120.10 if I was to purchase Carbon offset credits! this would work out better and cheaper! but honestly what is $120.10 going to do to help the environment from me every year?
So what I have chosen to do is SWITCH to an Electricity Retailer that is going to provide me with 50% GREEN Electricity, Guaranteed!

And with my business of Solar Cleaning with an average of 1000 panels cleaned every year i have calculated i am also helping those with Solar produce an extra 213087 KWH per Year = 200.30178 Ton of Carbon offsetting, minimum every year. Equal to if I purchased $2003 of Carbon offsets each year!
So again WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT?
